Project 30°

by sentek
Worklog: Here

Project 30° is sentek's first scratch build but things seem to be going very well indeed and when we last looked at his project log, the case was already taking form. It gets its name from the fact that the motherboard is tilted at 30 degrees instead of laying flat.

It's a unique feature that we haven't come across too often if at all but we can see how things are planned to work out, including the tray in some early renders of the project.

The case will apparently have two tiers with the motherboard located in the top. There's plenty going on outside too with an LCD display, fan controller, handle and custom power and reset switches and USB ports too.

As we saw in the renders, the case will be made from a frame. A hollow aluminium rod was cut into sections and then secured together with angled connectors giving the case its shape. It's already starting to look a lot like the renders.

Spare Lian Li motherboard trays are massively popular in the modding world and sentek found one over at kustompcs which should save a lot of work and headaches as the tray, I/O ports and expansion slots are already lined up.

Above we can see the motherboard tray installed early on in the project but it's clear that it's tilted giving the project its name.

Of course once the hardware starts to go on we can see just how unique the case design is especially with the tilted motherboard. In one of the more recent updates to his log, sentek has started fashioning and installing the side panels which include various slots for cooling fans.
